May

peering through the current DC

Volunteers: Gwen Rooker, Elisa Lane and Les Rivera

Project Overview

Great success on May 7th and 8th at the inaugural Washington DC Inner City Project!

Gwen, Elisa and Les came down from Philadelphia for three performances at Bruce Monroe Elementary and Raymond Elementary near Georgia Avenue in Washington DC.

The more than 700 children who attended the performances went wild at the sight of the three clowns who delivered stellar performances. Particularly successful were Elisa and Les’s massage skit and Gwen’s incredible accordion skills.

We intend to return to both of these schools and more in the DC area for more performances and workshops to share clowning and circus skills with the children to result in the creation of their own show.

This project was facilitated by STEP DC- Strategies to Elevate People - an organization reaching out to children in DC’s inner city schools. We extend a special thank you to Karmen Taylor, STEP Program Director, and Sarah Martiny, STEP Volunteer for making this event possible.
